Eglise de Saint-Just d'Ardèche
Ancient fortified church, it is part of the Middle Ages fortifications. The church still have its Romanesque roof. It's hard to date it precisely but experts presume it might be at the end of the 14th century. (Notice also the remarkable door towards south).
This church has been renovated many times, as for instance in 1608 when they added the church tower on the roof. Compared to the the church in Larnas the church of Saint-Just is a bit bigger. The resemblance is due to the cupola and the core. Both churches were built at the end of the 14th century.
The south gate is the original entrance, and the roof is unique and impressive.
On the inside you can find a gravestone, a baptismal font and some wall paintings. One of the painting shows Saint Just, a theologian who s been Bishop of Lyon during the IVth century. At the end of his life he retired in the desert. (Information of M. Jean-François ROCHE)
