Saint-Just d'Ardèche
Saint-Just was built on the site of an ancient Roman Villa, its proximity to the Rhône river marked its history. In the Middle Ages the village was lodged between its Saracen towers. The beautifully restored church with a Romanesque style door is worthy of a detour. The lavoir of St Just (public wash house) was constructed in 1884 with taps to regulate the water for the household needs of its population.
The site of « Pont Cassé » (the broken bridge), the vestiges of a bridge that was ravaged in 1788 by one of the worst floods seen in the region, is an iconic swimming spot. The beach benefits from a lifeguard during July and August. Numerous hiking trails depart from Saint-Just.. The lavoir gets its water from a fountain intercepted in 1821 from the quarter ‘de la grèse’ in the north of the village.
