More information

Bob Appelmans was born in Belgium on 24 October 1956. After training at the fine arts school in Châtelet, he left Belgium on a journey of initiation.

In France, he met an American ceramist who introduced him to the art of firing, continued his apprenticeship in Périgueux with the technique of throwing and set up his workshop in Provence where he developed the art of the wheel.
Thirsting for perfection, he went to Boise in Idaho in the United States and learned the Japanese technique of "Raku".
On his return to France, he put his artistic skills to work for people with social difficulties and physical disabilities, in activity centres linked to personal development.
He then moved away from the lathe technique and focused his work on modelling and sculpture. He set up his workshop in Saint Rémy de Provence, developing his creations while welcoming children and adults to pass on his passion for clay.
His research leads him to create works charged with dramatic or humorous meaning, moving from figurative work to abstraction with the unceasing joy of discovery.

He takes part in the Blou'Art arts and crafts fair in Thueyts and is registered with the Chambre des Métiers d'Art (CMA).
