Church Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption

The church Notre Dame du Ranc, built on a rock foundation near the castle of Gras, didn’t use to bury people. For this purpose a cemetry and a flagstone funeral chapel in Romanesque style were added.

The chapel is dedicated to Saint Blaise, patron saint of the weavers. Almost a ruine, the Notre-Dame-du-Ranc was demolished at the beginning of the 17th century and replaced by the Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption in 1652 against the former fortifications, turning the former watch-tower into a bell-tower.
The church has only one nave and has a triple apse. On the inside you can find prominent wall paintings, presumably of the 19th century. It has a pyramidic shaped church tower and a vault with extraordinary medallions.
