Saint-Vincent de Barrès

From its lofty perch on top of a limestone outcrop, the fortified medieval village of Saint-Vincent de Barrès overlooks the Barrès plain and has been classified as an Ardèche Character Village since 2011, its ancient buildings built in a mix of black and white local stone.

Highlights include the 11th century keep and the village ramparts with six distinctive towers – walk through the Porte des Notables for a real sense of the defences.

Then wander through the narrow lanes, lined with historic shops and coats of arms, for a journey back through history.
