Visite libre du Tchier de Borée

Created by Fabienne Versé and Serge Boÿer, the Tchier de Borée is made up of 70 engraved stones arranged in an 80 m circle.
Blending art, symbols and landscape, this contemporary stone calendar invites quiet contemplation at the bottom of Mount Mézenc.

Geo Side :
The Tchier of Borée is a contemporary artwork set in the volcanic landscapes of the Boutières. Created in 2008 by Fabienne Versé and Serge Boyer, this megalithic installation consists of 70 standing stones arranged in a circle 80 meters in diameter. Each stone carries a symbol or message: runes, astrological signs, natural elements (air, water, fire, earth), winds, mythology… “Tchier” (from the local dialect) means “pile of stones”: a tribute to stone, time and the memory of the region.
From the Tchier, hikers enjoy wide panoramas revealing the majestic Mont Mézenc (the highest point in Ardèche), the Suc de Sara, the Gouleyou and the famous Mont Gerbier‑de‑Jonc, a true emblem of the Ardèche Mountains.

Hiking Side :
The sweeping view towards various sucs (volcanic hills) and nearby Mont Mézenc sets a perfect scene for hiking and contemplation. The Tchier of Borée is easily reached from the village on foot or by car (parking nearby). It’s also an ideal stopover for exploring the wild landscapes of the Mézenc.
‑ Loop No. 13 passes by the Tchier. Starting from the village, it blends views of Mézenc, Gerbier‑de‑Jonc and the Eysse valley, heritage architecture with the hamlets of Échamps with their lauze and thatched roofs, a dolmen, and the impressive “Roches de Borée”. An itinerary that combines nature, culture and geology. (2h)
‑ The “Roches de Borée” (Borée Rocks) hike offers a walk from the village through stone hamlets, forests and volcanic formations with remarkable viewpoints.
