Overlooking the Dunière valley on a very steep site, the remains of La Tourette Castle (whose central feature is a quadrangular keep) attract the curiosity of many walkers.
An information plaque has been installed near the castle.
The Château de la Tourette is a castle whose origins date back to the 13th century. Visible remains from the 14th and 15th centuries (the central feature of which is a large quadrangular keep). The building comprises a fortified house (16th century, restored, which houses an old guard room and a beautiful spiral staircase restored in 2020), as well as a large terrace with its remarkable retaining wall (from the terrace, there is a beautiful view of the remains of the castle and the Dunière gorges).
The site has been listed as a Historic Monument since 7 November 1996 (fortified house, outbuildings, terraces, keep, elevation).
During the “European Heritage Days” in September, the owners offer a guided tour of the fortified house (former guard room, beautiful spiral staircase…) and of the grounds (large terrace with a view of the castle remains and the Dunière gorges): for more information, contact the ‘Cœur d’Ardèche’ Tourist Office (tel. 04 75 20 81 81).
