Fontaine Barbière
The Barbière Fountain, once used by the village barbers, unveils a more mystical origin. It is actually dedicated to the god Barbo, revered by both the Ligurians and the Celts, known for straightening twisted legs!
We are in a granite region, where the water naturally contains very little limestone.
The spring is said to have the power to straighten crooked legs. This legend probably comes from the fact that the water may once have flowed through a limestone vein, like those found in the surrounding hillsides. As evidence, lime-loving plants, such as the spindle tree (Euonymus), grow there. The spring water may therefore have contained a small amount of limestone, which was believed to benefit those who drank it.
