Gate of Besse (or Gate of the Austrians)
It marks the boundary between the lower town and the upper town. It was renamed when Austrian troops passed through in 1815 after the defeat at Waterloo. Listed as a historic monument in 1927, it has undergone numerous modifications.
Its foundations may date back to the 13th century, but today we can only imagine its defensive role. Closed off by a portcullis, all that remains are the foundations of a watchtower (small watchtower) visible in its upper right corner. The coats of arms of the De Poitiers family can be seen.
