Lavoir

The lavoir of St Just (public wash house) was constructed in 1884 with taps to regulate the water for the household needs of its population. The lavoir gets its water from a fountain intercepted in 1821 from the quarter ‘de la grèse’ in the north of the village.

This lavoir is divided into two parts. The first part with the fountain used to give water to the horses and the cattle. The water afterwards went into the second part. As the word lavoir already suggest, this basin was meant for the village people to do their laundry. The drain-off supplied the bassin in the downpart of the village and irrigated the gardens and orchards of ther southern quarter.
Because the roof threatened to fall down, they renovated the lavoir in the 1990s in a way identical to its authentic style, only without a roof.
