Le Pont Cassé – The broken bridge

A first bridge built in the middle of the 18.th century with 11 arches and about 10 arches more from St Just : the bridge is 340 m long at that time.

An exceptionally heavy flooding takes 10 arches away in 1790 and two other ones at the beginning and the middle of the 19th century have destroyed the rest. It was planned that the current bridge should be a suspension bridge. But finally a fixed bridge has been inaugurated in 1861 (325 m long). The project has changed. 140 years later, the structure of the bridge has still remained although the upper part has been modified.
