Porte Fornate
The building showcases a simple yet elegant architecture, distinguished by its ogival shape and an imposing square tower adorned with arrow slits. The sculpted coat of arms of the Retourtour family has been carefully integrated into the stone of the structure.
Its name is believed to come from a nobleman, Antoine Fornate, who lived in the adjoining house around 1480.
The gate marked the entrance to the road from Lamastre, and muleteers travelling through the Vivarais region could stop at the nearby Lion d’Or Inn.
