Protestant temple

Photo 2
With its very sober style, the current Protestant temple (inaugurated in October 1826) is one of the largest Protestant temples in France.
The current Protestant temple is not the original temple. The first temple was built in 1562 but destroyed in 1683 after the massacre of many Protestants by the King's Dragoons at a place called L'Herbasse. It was the Ardèche politician François-Antoine de Boissy d'Anglas, senator under Napoleon and president of the Convention in 1795, who obtained permission to build a new temple. Work began in 1824, and the inauguration took place on 8 October 1826, even though the ceiling still had to be installed. With its very sober style, the current Protestant temple is one of the largest Protestant temples in France. In 1844, the roof had to be repaired, and in 1874, alterations were made (creation of adjoining rooms).
