Stained glass windows of the church Saint Andéol
The 19th century stained glass windows of the church Saint-Andéol were completely destroyed by the bombardment of 1944. Only after the renovation of the church they started also to think about the replacement of the stained glass.
"The artistic project was confided to Jean-Pierre Bertrand. With only the windowframe to start with, the artist first studied the lightfall with its different reflections and submitted it to the space of the already existing architecture of the church. Therefore, the light was his main creative tool.
Jean-Pierre Bertrand kept two old amber-coloured glasses of the 13th century and placed them upon one another to create different densities of light.
With regard to the religious art, Jean-Pierre Bertrand is convinced that in order to engender one should always constantly question oneself. He wanted to create an opportune atmosphere for prayer without the stained glass windows distracting people in their contemplation. The windows should not only be a work of art, it should also be part of the meditation.
