Statue of Dona Vierna

The fountain was built in 1888 in honor of the town’s legendary patroness. It pictures the vegetation and animal world of the Laoul Forest, and the sculpture and tombstone of Saint-Andéol.

The marble statue represents the legendary figure of Dame Vierne de Balazuc who, according to tradition was the town’s prominent patroness. Her support ranked Bourg-Saint-Andéol among the first towns in France that installed electric light and drinking water in their streets. In 1888 the grateful townspeople decided to erect a monument in her honor.
