La Dolce Via, a green way linking viaducts and tunnels

The Dolce Via is a must-do trail for anyone who wants to explore Ardeche by bike.  Criss-crossing the river from one bank to the other, the Dolce Via is a green way through the Eyrieux valley that follows the line of a former departmental railway line that closed down in 1968.

Now a 90km route links Saint-Laurent-du-Pape with Saint-Agrève, passing through Le Cheylard.   And whether you chose to travel on foot, by bike, or by private minicab, the orchards of fruit trees, the mills and assorted works of art will help you understand both the agricultural and industrial past of the valley. The rail viaducts and tunnels have been sympathetically restored to provide an unrivalled view over the length of the river.  Expect unspoilt landscapes covered in green oaks, box bushes, and spiny acacias with plenty of idyllic spots to bathe or chill out over a picnic.
