Ardèche film

Born in Brazil and India but now Ardéchois at heart, John and Gabriel travel the roads of the department to meet its inhabitants, exploring a question that is as personal as it is universal: what makes a place feel like home? From the Chauvet Cave to village pubs, by car, canoe or hot-air balloon, a thoughtful journey in search of what binds us to a place.

The two directors put themselves in the spotlight and explore an intimate yet universal question: what makes a place feel like home?

Born thousands of kilometres from France – Gabriel in Brazil and John in India – they have nevertheless found in the Ardèche a place to which they feel deeply attached. A place that connects them. A land they share.

Their road trip takes them to meet people who were born in the Ardèche or have made it their home – all different, all generous. In particular, they discover the takeover of a village pub deep in the mountains, the Ardèche memories of chef Anne-Sophie Pic, and the precise craftsmanship of passionate artisans.

From the Chauvet Cave, whose paintings date back 36,000 years, to the activities that still shape the region today, each stop offers a fresh perspective on what gives a place its soul.

Whether by car, canoe or hot-air balloon, John and Gabriel travel through far more than just picture-postcard landscapes: an Ardèche that is both spectacular

and intimate. Through their encounters, their journey leads them to explore how a place becomes a home. More than just a discovery of the Ardèche, the film thus offers a sensitive journey in search of what binds us to a place.
