European Heritage Days : Silkmill museum

Free guided tours of the eco-museum! Discover the history of silk reeling in Ardèche and the transformation of silk thread from silkworms. It is also an important part of local history and the young girls who worked there.

Tucked away at the far end of a shaded park, in a former ‘factory’, the eco-museum traces the history of silk thread. A specially designed exhibition route showcases the skills involved in silk reeling. Follow the thread and come and discover the various social and technical aspects of silk reeling across 400m² of exhibition space: scale models, multimedia displays, a documentary film, visual murals, soundscapes and lighting effects all contribute to a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
