Heritage Days: Lecture on the restoration of the local atlas
The local council is hosting a talk by Julie Tyrlik explaining the restoration of the local atlas, as part of European Heritage Days.
The municipality possesses a particularly valuable heritage document: its cadastral atlas dating from 1839. This historic volume, which bears witness to the history of our region, has recently been restored by Julie Tyrlik, a heritage conservator based in Jaujac
A graduate of the Institut national du patrimoine, where she obtained a master’s degree in heritage restoration specialising in books and graphic arts, Julie Tyrlik is a freelance conservator-restorer. She works for numerous public and private institutions – libraries, archives, national and international museums – to restore and preserve ancient documents and heritage works.
Based in the Ardèche since 2021, she has opened her workshop in Jaujac.
The restored work is a cadastral atlas, that is to say a collection of maps produced in the 19th century during the establishment of the land registry. These maps provide a highly detailed representation of the municipal area, showing plots of land, paths, rivers, buildings and more…
The Jaujac atlas is a fascinating piece of heritage.
It offers a true snapshot of the area in the 19th century and helps us understand how the village, hamlets, paths and plots have evolved over time. For historians, researchers and local residents curious about local history, it is a valuable source of information.
Thanks to the meticulous restoration work carried out by Julie Tyrlik, this atlas
