Sables émouvants : expositions "créations textiles et cuirs"

Two designers are exploring the Sahara through textiles, fashion and traditional craftsmanship. Sophie Debazac works with fabric and materials gathered in the desert, whilst Katherine Pradeau blends Parisian couture with Tuareg traditions.

‘Carnets Sahariens’ by Sophie Debazac
Having trained in painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy, Sophie Debazac gradually turned her attention to textile art. The Sahara has emerged as the central theme of her work. Cotton fabrics, veils, wool and ropes are folded, pleated, crumpled, sewn, tied, knitted, stretched and combined with other materials gathered in the desert. An art of fabric that sits alongside that of painting and sculpture.

‘Sahara by Katherine Pradeau’
Katherine Pradeau collaborated for 10 years with renowned fashion designers before founding her own brand and then continuing her work outside the realm of seasonal collections. Her creations draw inspiration from a fusion of craft traditions: the artistry of Parisian couture artisans and the ancestral skills of Tuareg craftspeople (leatherworkers, embroiderers from the Aïr region, and jewellery smiths from Agadez). Thanks to the designer’s ‘French touch’, the style is both cosmopolitan and distinctly Parisian.
