Randonnée "La Dent de Rez"

Itinerary details

Type d’itinéraire : Loop

Stone, Grit, Ground

A beautiful hike to the highest point in the Lower Ardèche (719 m), a remarkable natural area designated as a Natura 2000 site, offering a stunning panoramic view stretching from the Cévennes to the Alps—a hike that can be completed in a single day.

Park in the hamlet of Saint-Vincent, next to the school in the town of Gras.

– Start at the hiking information sign, head toward
the red fire hydrant, and follow the Dent de Rez and the Col d’Eyrole—which are clearly
visible on the horizon as landmarks, walking alongside the houses
in the housing development while following the wooden stakes that mark the
path.

– Facing the cemetery, turn right onto the road and immediately rejoin
the trail, walking alongside a chain-link fence. Continue to
the Bréchon junction (1).

– Cross a small paved road heading toward Gerles. Turn
right onto the road through a residential area in La Rouvière, then take
right onto the small Les Reynouards road, passing by lavender fields and
vineyards. Turn right and continue to the information sign
for the nature reserve (2); turn left onto the short stretch of
paved road that becomes a dirt path at the first curve to go over
the barrier restricting access to authorized vehicles only.
You are now entering the protected area.

– At the Col d’Eyrole (3), turn right toward the base of the cliff. The closer you get to the cliff, the steeper the slope becomes. Climb a short rocky escarpment (4) that leads to the summit plateau. Follow the edge of the plateau to the right to
reach its highest point, where you’ll find the orientation table (5).
Continue across the summit moor to the opposite end of the
plateau.

– When you reach the fork at the sign for the Dent de
Rez, turn sharply right toward Gogne (4); the trail
descends via a few rocky switchbacks to the Col de l’Aulagner (6).

– Continue straight ahead to reach the nearby hamlet of Gogne (7).
Just past the first house, turn right onto the trail that
initially follows the ridgeline to the Serrélia
junction (8).

– Then turn sharply right onto a descent that leads into a
deep valley (9). Cross the stream via a stone bridge to
climb back up the opposite slope along a small road that is more or less
paved. At the top of the climb, you’ll reach the intersection with the
Chemin de Brechon (1).

– Turn left and walk back along the housing development in the opposite direction to return to the starting point at the school.
