Neck Basaltique

The Neck of Sceautres is the most important in Europe.
There is a statue of the Virgen Mary at its peck. 130m above the village, the neck, plug of the old chimney of the volcano, allows us to discover the geology of the site.

Between 6.6 and 7.7 million years ago, the relief was reversed following the
birth of the Alps which generated the central massif.
Lava flows filled the valleys and erosion caused basalt collapses.
On the neck there was a castle which has completely disappeared today.
The site is accessible to walkers, follow the signs.
