Eglise d'Issarlès

The magnificent church, part of which dates back to the 11th century, has been restored with the help of the parishioners.

History tells us that a bull issued by Pope Paul II on 29 November 1468 gave Antoine Ithier de Géorand dit le Vieux, prior of Arlempdes, the curacy of the church of Saint-Victor d'Issarlès. The church at Issarlès was that of a priory dependent on the cathedral chapter of Notre-Dame du Puy.
The current building, which probably dates from the 12th century, has undergone numerous alterations, but has retained the original two-bay nave and porch. Unlike many others, the latter was not destroyed, but simply moved three metres when the nave was lengthened in the 1850s. This Romanesque porch, open on the west façade, has two wide voussoirs resting on columns with carved capitals.
