Authentic sheep barn with a view on the mountains.
Just 1.5 hours from Lyon, right in the heart of the northern Ardèche, our sheepfold lies secluded amidst nature at an altitude of 760 metres, far from any neighbourhood noise or roads. You’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the Ardèche mountain ranges. Ideal for families or friends. From October to April, you can enjoy the cosiness of an open fire, a pellet stove and a fire pit. A mountain hut atmosphere for up to 8 people.
And in summer for 13 people – see the listing under: Rustic sheep barn in the Ardèche with no neighbours.
The little extras at our Bergerie:
– Smokers and pets are welcomed
– Barbecue, fire basket, pizza oven,
– 2 accommodation units 15 metres apart – one to keep the noise at bay, the other for undisturbed sleep
– 2 hammocks for siestas
– Well-equipped house to avoid having to bring bulky luggage; everything you need for daily life is provided.
– A small pond further down the hill
– For the children: a sandpit, 2 swings, a treehouse in the woods
– Walks ranging from 20 minutes to 4 hours right on the doorstep, without having to take the car
– Option to have delicious meals delivered
– One of our neighbours will welcome you on arrival and see you off on departure; she can also bring you some delicious pastries if you’d like
– Wi-Fi
– No TV
Before booking your stay, please make sure that the style of the sheep farm meets your expectations:
– We have made a conscious effort to preserve the simple and authentic character of this sheep farm.
– From October to April, you will need to refill the pellet stove every 24 hours. There is an oil-fired stove in the sheep shed, and you will be shown how to use it on arrival; a central fireplace with a wood-burning stove creates a cosy atmosphere.
– Due to unpredictable weather conditions, snowfall is possible (winter tyres and/or snow chains are recommended).
– Here, nature reigns supreme and reclaims its space as soon as we leave it. You’ll encounter a variety of insects, spot holes made by field mice and moles here and there, and perhaps even see a few roe deer or foxes.
– The nearest neighbour is a 15-minute walk away. Hence, the feeling of being at the end of the world, with no risk of disturbing the neighbours.
– The running water comes from the spring, from which all local residents get their drinking water. Do give it a try – it tastes delicious. However, if you prefer, please bring your own bottles of mineral water.
– To get to Grimpeloup, you need to follow a 1.4 km unpaved forest track that climbs steadily. A word of advice: stay in first gear and follow the signs carefully!
– Mountain bikers, walkers, and horse riders are welcomed and may drop by to say hello. We count on your consideration.
– The Wi-Fi in the sheep shed isn’t always very fast; it’s better to go online in the old house (you can also work from home using an Ethernet cable)
– The outdoor furniture is deliberately simple and in a country house style: please use the two large planks and trestles, as well as the benches, even for large groups.
