Audio viewing point at the Ardèche chestnut conservation orchard

This lookout point offers a view of an experimental orchard featuring all 65 varieties of the Ardèche Chestnut PDO. It’s a great place to stop and learn about the history of chestnuts in the Ardèche and the challenges of preserving them in the face of climate change.

The chestnut tree plays a major role in the Ardèche landscape. Cultivated for centuries on the region’s slopes, it has shaped the landscape, agriculture and part of the local identity. Even today, chestnuts remain an important resource for the Ardèche, with 65 varieties recognised by the ‘Châtaigne d’Ardèche’ PDO.

From the viewing point, a three-minute audio experience invites you to discover the chestnut tree in a new light and to delve into the history, landscapes and future of the Ardèche chestnut groves.
