St Andéol's Church

The highest Romanesque church in the Rhone Valley, dedicated to St Andéol in the XIIth century. Surprising volume. Possibility to climb the stairs to the top of the tower by appointment all year round, every day in July and August except on Sundays.

More information

The most striking features of this vast Romanesque church with its three naves, which dates from the late 11th century, are the remains of an apse on the western side and a very beautiful dome in cut stone at the crossing, where the nave, chancel and transept intersect. Inside is the beautiful Roman tombstone of a child which was reused for the sepulchre of Saint Andéol: he was the patron saint of the town who was martyred in 208 according to legend. This sarcophagus therefore has 3 Roman sides and one Romanesque side, sculpted in the early 12th century.
